Business of Photography

Pro Masterclass - Felix Zaska / Westport, Ireland

Pro Masterclass - Mo. 27.10. - Fr. 31.10.2014

“Photography is my passion, the search for truth my obsession”. Alfred Stieglitz

Combine a 5 day pro-photography master class  with a photo shoot holiday in the West of Ireland.

This photography pro master class is about photography as a business - for those that have the perspective of part or full time professional photography and generate an income from image and print sales. Participants will find it useful to draw on decades of wide ranging commercial experience of a professional photographer who is currently actively engaged in the stock photography and art photography market.

"Actually, I 'am not all that interested in the subject of photography. Once the picture is in the box, I'm not all that interested in what happens next ... Hunters, after all, aren't cooks".     Henri Cartier-Bresson

The business of photography will be explored - both as location and studio photography - without huge resources. The photographer should be able to spend most of the time 'shooting' images rather than 'cooking' images on the computer. Thus improving digital processing workflow to save editing time is a major objective. A further emphasis of this pro workshop will be the sale of images in the international stock photography market via photo agencies (and on-line). The pro workshop is divided equally into workshop based lectures with demonstrations and practical photography in exiting outdoor locations - focusing on the special light and the artistic structures, shapes and tones of the shores and Islands of Clew Bay's wild sunken drumlin landscape. Lectures have an international context and include the following themes:

  • the business of photography - advertising, architecture, corporate and commercial photography.
  • stock images - picture agencies and the stock market
  • art photography - traditional black and white photography, the art photography market and exhibiting
  • professional location photography - and location lighting
  • studio photography - medium/large format and lighting for people / still life photography
  • image processing and professional workflow - photoshop and printing
  • photographer websites - online image sales

Study with Felix Zaska - a professional photographer with 25 years of international experience in art, landscape, travel, advertising, architecture and lifestyle photography with international assignments for photographic agencies, publishers, postcard companies and architects. expedition photo safari tours

Coming Soon - Autumn 2015 : Combine an cost-effective adventure holiday in a small group with an expedition photography  workshop by Felix Zaska a professional photographer with a background in expedition photography and DSLR filming in locations where we had shoots in the past

This expedition / adventure photography and video workshop course is for the adventurous who want to learn HD video and photography skills while exploring wild landscapes, wildlife and ancient civilization sites.

Modern photography and video technologies are now overlapping as professional photography and broadcast digital HD video can now be shot with DSLR cameras' and broadcast professionals and TV networks have begun using this technology for a more 'cinematic feel'. With new DSLR technology and low cost action cameras such as 'go-pro' there are new trends and opportunities for the adventurerous photograper to engage with documentary photography, market film clips and edit their own multi media productions using photoshop.
This opens up exiting new visual applications and markets to those engaged in photography. The expedition workshop focuses on international travel, actiondocumentary and landscape photography / video for photographers that are planning their own adventure travel and photo expeditions and want to market their images and footage from the trip.
Information available Jan 2015

"I have travelled widely, but Clew Bay has to be one of the most beautiful vistas in the northern hemisphere. The scenery majestic and expansive, the light and sky changeconstantly, so that every day even the same view seems new. It is an ideal venue for beginning or experienced photographers, especially when combined with the hiking and outdoor activities. The countryside and beaches are still pristine and, especially in non-summer months, one can feel quite free, almost an explorer. This setting, coupled with the Zaskas cozy modern house with a 'cottage feel' and all the amenities and their generous hospitality, humor, and knowledge of the area, make this a wonderful getaway adventure. A wonderful respite from the city."Katherine McFate, New York City"
